"The fact is everyone is in sales. Whatever area you work in, you do have clients and you do need to sell." Jay Abraham
I am a committed shopper. In fact a shopkeepers dream customer, I make up my mind instantly, there’s no shilly shallying around, in and out as quick as a flash with the purchase under my arm. You would think then that shops would welcome me with open arms, yet there is a department store that I frequent regularly, in particular two fashion departments within the store where they should be falling over themselves to greet me. Not the case in both.
They all know me. I have been buying from them regularly for over ten years, most of the sales assistants have been there for the whole length of time, yet only one sales assistant actually knows my name and greets me with a cheery, "Hello Mrs. Owen, how are you today".

I like Mary Portas, the self styled Queen of Shops who dishes out advice and scathing put-downs in equal measure. She’s a bossy boots, and I can identify with that, she’s not afraid to state the obvious to grotty little shops that should have gone out of business years ago....

We generally just think of glue as a medium to stick items together, yet glue makes a great support and can be decorative also. There are many coloured glues on the market now to choose from and experiment with. Make sure you buy a good quality glue gun preferable with differing nozzles for making a variety of patterns. Here’s how to make a simple glue bowl. Take care though as hot glue burns, read the safety instructions first. Step 1 - Heat the glue gun and place on a ceramic tile or similar protective surface. | Step 2 - Dampen the glass bowl keeping it well away from the glue gun and sockets. Step 3 - Turn the bowl upside down and place on tile. |

It’s 7.30 a.m. on a Monda y morning and I am still in bed. So what! Well after forty years of owning a flower shop and just recently retired this is one of life’s little luxuries. After years of crack of dawn exits from the house, and brisk journeys to flower markets in every kind of atrocious weather, its fabulous waking up to find the day is all mine. Thoughts of retirement crept up slowly, like petals unfurling from a flower, first it’s dismissed quickly as nonsense, far too young for that sort of thing. Gradually the feeling develops and blooms, until full blown, the decision is simple then; this is not the place you want to be anymore. Flowers had been my way of life for so long customers were shocked to hear the news of my impending exit. ‘But what are you going to do with yourself?’ they asked curiously. ‘You’ll be bored to death’ said one lady. The local undertaker who I had dealt with for many years uttered darkly, ‘You must keep busy.’ Did he have some inside information from upstairs I wondered? |

Door decorations are not just for Christmas. Welcome friends and family this Easter with a spring door wreath that is easy and quick to make. Use a ten inch wire wreath frame as your base and cover it with moss. I used dry Forest moss in lime green and bound it on with lime green reel wire.

W e can’t all afford to buy a work of art for our home but you will be surprised how easy it is to whip up a state of the art grass sculpture. Grasses are the star this season and there is such a huge selection to choose from, whether they are picked from the garden or bought from a florists’ shop they won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Long lasting grasses mean you will have your own genuine living art for several weeks. From statuesque sculptures to meadows in a bowl all is possible with a little ingenuity, embellish the grasses with a couple of flowers and hey presto, striking designs to get everyone talking. Simplicity is the key so start now with our easy grass designs, then get more adventurous and experiment on your own.
