Gourd Flower Arrangements for Halloween 2008 from Lynda Owen

Door decorations should reveal the personality living behind the door, no more those tacky fake fir rings that come out year after year, this year’s door decoration will be lifestyle led. With a door decoration like the one pictured here you will definitely want to open the door to see who lives in a house like this.

With the designer label, celebrity culture of today spreading into everyday life now comes the high fashion door decoration for Christmas. Made on a traditional 10cm wire wreath frame cocktail sticks are wired to the frame with gold reel wire. First make a bed of cocktail sticks cris crossing for interest, then add a further layer of sticks at an angle to the base to give a three dimensional effect. To prevent them slipping wire the cocktail sticks very firmly. Make sure there is a secure hook to hang the decoration from, and then push the red chillies firmly onto the cocktail sticks to form interesting patterns within the ring. Also effective used in this way are crab apples and cherry peppers, for a larger door decoration use kebab sticks, and waxed apples or pears. A little dab of glue will keep heavy fruits in place. The possibilities for this design are endless, but the wiring of the cocktail sticks is time consuming so the costs are in time, skill and innovative style.
It’s minimal, pared down style and definitely will not be mistaken for a holly wreath.

Happy Christmas
