Meadow in a Bowl Flower Arrangement by Lynda Owen - January 2009

Whip up a meadow in a bowl to bring the countryside indoors.  This simple arrangement is so quick to make you will have a grassland design in no time at all. By using long lasting flowers such as Chincherinchee this arrangement will last around six weeks.

Use

  • 2 bunches of Steel Grass (available from good florists).
  • 1 block of OASIS® Ideal Floral Foam approx.
  • 10 stems Chincherinchee or any slender long lasting flower.
  • A ceramic bowl.

Step 1 - Meadow in a Bowl by Lynda Owen

Step 1 - Submerge a block of floral foam in water until it is completely saturated.

Step 2 - Cut the foam to shape and push into the bowl firmly. The whole area inside the bowl should be filled with foam.

Step 3 - Push the stems firmly into the foam, keeping the grass straight. Fill the whole area with grasses.

Step 4 - Any short pieces of grass can be used around the rim of the bowl to hide the foam and form a hedge around the taller grasses.

Step 5 - Once the bowl is entirely filled with grass, use any small off cuts to sprinkle on top of the foam.

Step 6 - Recut the stems of the Chincherinchee and intermingle between the grasses at varying lengths.  Make sure you push the stems well into the foam for security and to aid water intake.
