Eurofleurs 2010Published in young floral designers, RHS Show Tatton park, Lynda Owen, floristry, Eurofleurs competition 2010 by Lynda Owen
Well I was going to give you blow-by-blow accounts each night of the Eurofleurs, unfortunately my e mail would not work so sorry you have to make do with this after competition account. What can I say about the awesome young competitors at Eurofleurs, all under 25 years of age, but brave, ingenious, creative and delightful. All the competitors had a passion for flowers and creating designs of beauty, plus not afraid to push the boundaries, experimenting with their own creativity. Wonderful stuff. Most of the designs made were from previously unseen materials but they all went for it with gusto and relished the tasks. Wonderful stuff.
OASIS® Floral Products sponsored the sundries so the competitors had a great variety of quality products to choose from.
Free Expression – Oneplace at Tatton – a Land art site. 1st Joe Massie of Great Britain. Joe produced stunning works in his usual immaculate style. This was a beautiful garden within a reed framework creating a meadow effect with wind blown vines entwined and a moss and earth base. Attila Kiss made a very clever walled garden with upturned tables clad in pieces of metal.
Hand tied design – By the Golden Brook 1st Elisabeth Schoeneman of Germany produced an exquisite natural design enhanced with coils of gold wire. Joe came fourth in this category with a hand tied housed in an inverted dome of Mikado sticks in a soft cream and green colouring with dripping vines and reeds giving a waterfall effect.
Planted design - The Kitchen Garden 1st Attila Kiss of Hungary won the planted task with a lovely reed enclosed secret garden. With clever use of flat cane detail around the perimeter of the container, which was echoed in tiny pieces of cane impaled on the Mikado to achieve, a wafting breeze through the design. Joe Massie of Great Britain made a perfectly executed egg shaped structure of Mikado sticks. Tall garden plants emerged from this cocoon with exquisite detail inside the construction.
Bridal Design – Marriage at the Mansion and a Special Award for the most innovative design. The special award for Innovation went to Thomasz Kuczynski of Poland with a winding band of flowers that appeared to be floating around a strong sword of grass. Very clever. 1st prize went to Janneke Roeland of The Netherlands with a pretty design using purple trailing ribbons. Joe came 3rd with a polished design using two circles of Perspex with Rose thorn detail and trailing red Roses. Very lovely and innovative.
Surprise Design – Let’s Go Gardening What would you do if you were given a wheelbarrow, fork and spade? Chuck in a few veggies and some lovely Sunflowers and materials and hey presto fabulous designs ensued from our talented bunch of youngsters. 1st place went to Attila Kiss of Hungary with our own Joe and Janneke Roeland coming in at joint 2nd place.
What a competition, and at the end after a flag waiving parade the winner of Eurofleurs 2010 was announced – the delightful Attila Kiss from Hungary took the cup only just pipping Joe Massie to the post with under 1 mark different. Thomasz Kuczynski came 3rd.
After a lovely dinner the party continued for the competitors back at their hotel with the exuberant Fabio from Italy leading the festivities. Truly a competition to remember. Most thanks to Tracy Tomlinson who organized the competition perfectly and to the whole Eurofleurs team who worked tirelessly throughout a very long and exhausting week.
Well done to the competitors and team.
