Sunny Cornwall

Published in sculpturesorganic shapesLynda Owenfloristryfloral designerscornwallBarbar Hepworths Garden by Lynda Owen | Comment (0)
I can't believe how lucky we were to have a brilliantly sunny week in Cornwall. It's years since we went to Cornwall and it just reminded me how great England is when we have sun. My favourite places were Minack Theatre, the garden hewn out of the rock cliff and looking down on romantic Porthcurno beach.Plus Barbara Hepworth's Sculpture Garden. For floral designers this is a must, fabulous organic shapes in sculpture in a beautiful garden setting. I will be reporting from Eurofleurs next week so log on for up to date news of the competition blow by blow.

Gina’s Cottage
Commercial Road
Mousehole
Cornwall
TR19 6QG

We invite you to holiday in Mousehole at Gina’s Cottage situated 50 yards from the harbour and village centre. The Cottage is more than 100 years old but has recently been refurbished to a modern and charming standard.

The Village

The Cottage lies near the centre of the well known village of Mousehole.  This beautiful small fishing village boasts a picturesque harbour and hosts a beach either side. Mousehole is protected by conservation measures and is first recorded in historical records in 1242 AD. Relatively unchanged over the past century the poet Dylan Thomas once said it was ‘the prettiest village in England’.

During the summer months you can sit and enjoy watching the boats working out of the harbour, who are predominantly fishing for shellfish and Mackerel. If you wish to see a larger harbour you only have to travel to nearby Newlyn, the main port in this region (its early morning fishmarket is most interesting).

Mousehole village has a delightful pub The Ship Inn or alternatively why not visit the old Coastguard Hotel or the friendly Mousehole British Legion. There are also a number of restaurants, cafes’, tea rooms, ice cream parlors, small shops and galleries.

Not only is Mousehole charming in the summer period, but it offers the world famous Mousehole Christmas Harbour Lights over the Christmas and New Year period and provides an outstanding attraction even during the winter.

The Cottage

The open plan lounge and kitchen provides a contemporary and comfortable living area. The kitchen is well equipped with a conventional oven and electric hob, microwave and kettle for all your cooking requirements. The cottage also benefits from central heating.

On the first floor there are two bright and airy bedrooms; one double and one bunk bedded room. There is also a newly installed bathroom with bath and shower over.

The second floor has one large bedroom with double bed and sofa bed with views over the hills (however the stairs to the bedroom are steep) newly converted loft

The cottage accommodates six people with ease.

Parking/Public Transport

Parking for the Cottage is available at the harbour side car park about 100 yards from the cottage; it is payable locally at £2 per day.  If however you are not traveling by car the village is easily accessible by public transport; by train (to Penzance) and then by bus (presently a half hourly service) or alternatively a taxi for about £5.

Surrounding Area

There is much historic, archaeological, artistic and sporting interest in the West Penwith area.

The Cornish coastal path leads from the village and offers a delightful walk, especially southward towards Lamorna and beyond. To the north of Mousehole is the start of a cycle path which gives easy access to St Michael’s Mount about 6 miles away. Lands End is 8 miles; the beautiful beach of Porthcurno is 6 miles and surf beach at Sennen Cove 8 miles.

The famous Minack Theatre is also only eight miles away by car at Porthcurno.

Information leaflets for all local attractions are available in the lobby of The Ship Inn Pub on the harbour front.
